A note about this post: If you qualify for a mental health diagnosis and want your partner to be involved in your care, you can.
I often have couples tell me that they want to use their insurance for couples therapy or have been to a couples therapist before and that therapist billed their insurance. So why don't I? Most couples who seek counseling are married or have lived together for at least a few years. Often, by the time these couples seek counseling, their problematic.
While many therapists are advocating for their clients to build better boundaries, rid themselves of codependent behavior, and learn how to self-soothe, a life insurance. Couples counseling is an intimidating endeavor for most people. It's vulnerable enough to share your own innermost feelings with a counselor, but when you also.

Services
I am a licensed clinical professional counselor in the state of Idaho, and I help couples and individuals using Emotionally Focused Therapy.
My specialization is helping couples who want to repair and strengthen their relationships, but I also work with a limited number of individual clients.
Please take a look around my website to see if my practice matches what you are looking for in therapy.
A big part of my job is to make sure you feel heard, understood, and accepted.
If you've had a bad experience with counselors who are overly opinionated, make quick judgments about you and your situation, or see their main job as giving you advice, the good news is I am NOT that counselor.

If you're tired of fighting or feeling disconnected from your spouse, I'm here to help.
Couples counseling might feel intimidating, but I will work hard to make it a positive experience for you so your relationship can become a safe haven rather than a source of stress.
I have training from Dr. Sue Johnson, founder of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and I use this method to help couples address the core issues that impact their ability to not only stay together but to love their relationship.

In addition to working with couples, I work with individual adults who are looking for help in addressing relationship patterns, issues with mood, and negative self-concept.
My focus is on helping my clients see themselves as worthy and capable of having secure, lasting relationships.
Relationship problems are best addressed in couples therapy, but you might find yourself in a relationship where your partner isn't willing to do therapy.
Or, you might want to address your patterns in relationships even though you aren't currently in one.

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is an evidence-supported form of therapy developed by Dr. Sue Johnson.
It is based on attachment theory, which has shown that humans actually need secure bonds with others to be happy and healthy.
EFT then focuses on how people can create or strengthen the conditions needed for secure connections with others.
In EFT, emotions - even painful ones - are not the enemy; they are the way we learn more about ourselves (our needs, beliefs, and fears) so we can connect better with others.

I accept cash, check, and credit card payments.
Fees are due at time of service, and I do not contract with insurance companies.
I can provide you with documentation of your sessions for you to submit to your insurance company, and they may reimburse you for part or all of the services.
Reimbursement varies greatly between insurance companies and plans.
It is your responsibility to check with your insurance provider about their reimbursement policies, but I can help provide you with a list of the questions you should ask them so that you can estimate how much they may reimburse you.
