I was born in Minneapolis and raised in St. Paul, the eldest child of five in a working class neighborhood.
I married my husband right out of high school in 1975 and starting having children (it's what you did).
In 1985, we took a leap of faith and moved our then-small family of four children to rural Willow River.
We added three more children (yes, that's a total of seven children by birth and adoption) to our large owner-built home where I spent many years raising children, gardens and various critters.

I grew up just outside Willow River in a home my dad and our whole family built.
I have two brothers and five sisters, but have also shared my family with many foster children and foreign exchange students.
After graduating high school, I moved to St. Paul to attend Hamline University.
We were not the right fit, so I took a break from school to live life.
During this time, I was a nanny for triplet boys, and absolutely loved it.
However, in the summer of 2000, as they were preparing to become future kindergartners, I knew that I needed a change and that I needed to start working on my future.

I was born and raised on a farm in Grantsburg, WI and although I no longer live on the farm I continue to live in Grantsburg and am a huge Packer fan.
Being raised in a rural area I love being outdoors, camping, swimming and bonfires.
I attended two years of college at the University of Wisconsin - River Falls and then transferred to Bethel College in St. Paul where I graduated with a degree in Speech Communication and a minor in Youth Ministry (no I did not find a job in Speech Communication after graduation).

Welcome to Monarch, my name is Kelly Swanson and I was born in Denver, Colorado.
I am one of three adopted children.
My family moved to a small town in rural northern Minnesota in the 80's.
I met my husband while in high school, and we were married right after graduation.
My personal interests are spending time with my family, reading, walking, and enjoying nature.
I have always wanted to be a social worker or counselor but worked in several fields on my journey to where I am now.
I started out as a teenager working both as a waitress and a bank teller.
