When experiences in our families, our workplaces, and our communities cause trauma, the emotional burden can keep us from living a truly joyful and meaningful life. But here's the thing-we CAN heal, and we CAN create spaces where others can heal, too. Your emotional health is a wonderful blend of biological, psychological, and environmental factors, .

If that soup contains toxic ingredients (i.e., trauma) in any of those areas, you're likely to experience symptoms of depression, anxiety, and/or PTSD. Research on Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) as well as Positive Childhood Experiences (PCEs) have changed the game for treating trauma, on individual and systemic levels, and it guides everything we do at Deer Park.

It's painfully clear that we have reached a tipping point in America. We can't begin to talk about healing the trauma in our communities and our organizations without talking about systemic oppression of all kinds, specifically racism. Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) are disproportionately affected by Adverse Childhood Experiences, and the amount of physical and emotional labor that it will take to turn the ship around is mind-bending.

My mother would want me to tell you first about my fancy book-learnin', so let's get that out of the way.
I completed my BA in music and English at Stanford University in 1992, and then moved to sunny Minnesota for my graduate studies.
I earned my master's degree (2000) and PhD (2009) in Counseling and Student Personnel Psychology from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities.
During my training and after graduation, I worked in the counseling centers of several small private liberal arts colleges, as well as the large, urban campuses of the U of M and Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI).
Why Deer Park
Report
As the story goes, when the Buddha became enlightened, he did what all of us would do.
He put it on Facebook.
In his time (somewhere between the 4th and 6th century BCE), he took the low-tech approach and just started telling everyone what he had learned after sitting in meditation for 49 days straight.
4) Practicing self-compassion, nonjudgment, detachment to an outcome (among other skills) WILL help you cope with the suffering.
So, the Buddha put all of this out there and, as you might suspect, the Comments section was harsh.
Consulting
Report
Once you and your organization learns more about healing-centered engagement, it will be crystal clear that this is the anti-racist approach that we all need.
Shifting your organization's culture to better align with your values isn't always comfortable.
In fact, you'll probably experience all the feels.
Once your organization has completed the ConsciousCampus program, we offer ongoing consultation to help you navigate the process of becoming trauma-informed and healing-centered.
This includes adopting policies and procedures that align with 6 Guiding Principles of Trauma-Informed Care laid out by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Association (SAMHSA).
Training
Report
Our goal with all of our trainings is to 1) crush the myths that keep us from believing these truths, and 2) make the world a better place in the process.
We offer trainings that introduce the principles of trauma-informed practice and healing-centered engagement.
We'll cover the neurobiology of trauma, how early relationships affect our emotional development, emotional literacy and regulation, tools to repair relationship rifts, compassion fatigue and burnout, and the growing science of resilience.
Therapy
Report
Dr. Devjani (Juni) Banerjee-Stevens offers individual therapy to people who are ready to examine how personal, intergenerational, and societal trauma has affected their ability to thrive.
She is especially interested in helping the helpers (therapists, nurses, teachers, physicians, etc.) who are experiencing their own compassion fatigue and burnout due to serving people with extensive trauma histories.
Let's get real.
Most of us who went into a helping profession really thought we could make a difference.
